Live Search Advanced Search Capabilities Beta Launches
Live Search Advanced Search Beta introduces layered search with startsWith and contains operators for sophisticated product discovery.

September 19, 2024 introduced Live Search Advanced Search, a beta feature offering sophisticated query capabilities previously unavailable in standard search. Merchants can now leverage startsWith and contains operators to build layered, context-aware search experiences that deeply understand customer intent.
Advanced Search Operators
The advanced search interface supports SQL-like operators enabling merchants to build powerful queries. The startsWith operator finds products where specific fields begin with certain text, useful for prefix-based filtering. The contains operator finds products where fields include specific text anywhere within the value, enabling fuzzy, partial-match searching.
These operators enable scenarios like searching for products where the title starts with a brand name, or where descriptions contain specific keywords. Merchants can layer multiple operators to build complex queries serving highly specific customer needs.
Layered Search Experience
Rather than forcing customers into single search boxes, advanced search enables building multi-step, layered search interfaces. A jewellery store might start with "Find diamond rings where cut starts with F" (finding Flawless, Faint, etc.), then layer in price range, colour, and carat requirements. This enables customers to find perfect matches without browsing hundreds of products.
Customer Experience Impact
Advanced search capabilities enhance customer experience by meeting sophisticated search needs. Customers with specific requirements can express them precisely rather than suffering through broad category browsing. This improved precision drives higher conversion rates and better customer satisfaction.
Beta Feedback Opportunity
As a beta feature, Advanced Search welcomes merchant feedback. Early adopters should experiment with query combinations, test search scenarios representative of their customer base, and share learnings with Adobe. This feedback shapes the feature as it moves toward general availability.
Future of Search
Advanced Search represents the direction of e-commerce: moving from keyword matching toward intent understanding. By offering merchants sophisticated query tools, Adobe is enabling next-generation search experiences that delight customers and drive conversions.
