Adobe Commerce 2.4.9-alpha3: Braintree ELO Cards and Real Time Account Updater
Commerce 2.4.9-alpha3 adds Braintree ELO card support and Real Time Account Updater for automatic vaulted card updates.

On October 14, 2025, Adobe released Adobe Commerce 2.4.9-alpha3, introducing payment processing enhancements focused on reducing payment failures and improving customer experience. This release brings Braintree ELO card support and Real Time Account Updater (RTAU) integration—features particularly valuable for merchants processing international payments.
ELO Card Support
ELO is a major credit card brand in Latin American and some Asian markets. Previously, Adobe Commerce supported limited ELO processing through Braintree. With 2.4.9-alpha3, ELO cards receive first-class support, enabling merchants to process payments for customers in ELO-primary regions without friction. For merchants with Latin American customers or operations, this removes a significant barrier to payment acceptance.
Real Time Account Updater (RTAU)
RTAU is a Braintree feature that automatically updates vaulted payment methods when card details change. Rather than customers experiencing payment failures when their card expires or is reissued, RTAU silently updates the vaulted card with new details from their bank. This dramatically reduces payment retry rates, failed subscription renewals, and customer frustration.
How RTAU Works
When Braintree detects a vaulted card's issuing bank has reissued it (new expiry date, updated details), RTAU automatically updates the vault. On the next transaction, the updated card details process successfully without requiring customer action. This is particularly valuable for merchants managing recurring billing, subscriptions, or saved payment methods.
Merchant Benefits
RTAU reduces failed payment recovery costs, improves subscription renewal success rates, decreases customer support volume, and provides better business predictability. For merchants with high-value recurring billing, RTAU can significantly improve cash flow and customer lifetime value.
Implementation
RTAU is configured within Braintree settings, not at the Adobe Commerce layer. Once enabled in Braintree, Commerce automatically benefits from automatic card updates. No custom development or complex configuration required—the benefit is immediate and transparent.
Alpha Testing
As an alpha release, 2.4.9-alpha3 invites testing and feedback. Merchants processing international payments or managing subscriptions should prioritise testing these features. The final 2.4.9 release will incorporate feedback on payment processing reliability and international support.
Looking Forward
Payment processing reliability directly impacts revenue. By improving card acceptance rates and reducing payment failures, Commerce 2.4.9 directly contributes to merchant revenue. For Tom&Co's payment partnerships, these enhancements enable us to recommend confidence in payment processing reliability.
